IronMailer - Frequently Asked Questions
General Questions
- Q: "Why another Webmail product ? There's already so many.
What's the point of another one ?"
A: At the time of creation (2002), there are actually very
few usable Webmail products, with the following
features:
- open-source
- multi-language support
- efficient
For example, this Webmail product is much faster than a webmail
found on Linux distributions (SquirrelMail), because it relies
on Java and the Cocoon framework, where much of the dynamic part
of the program is compiled once, and then faster for all subsequent
request. At the time of writing, only one comparable Webmail/Java
program was found: jwebmail.sourceforge.net. However, that product
had some no-gos for production, and bug-reports and attempts at
contact with the author were unsuccessful. Therefore it was deemed
useful to create a new product, based on the newest technology
available.
- Q: "IronMailer, what´s in the name?"
A: Well first it's hard to find a new name in IT services. That's why
you end up with really crappy service names, such as "Wanadoo". But
we made an effort anyway and tried to come up with something original.
Mr. Marto (from nawak-online.org) offered IronMailer, as a tribute
to the band IronMaiden of course, and the name was adopted.
- Q: "Who is that guy on the login screen ?"
A: it's the "mailman":

- Q: "What do I need to run IronMailer on my system ? How do I
install it ?"
A: See the Installation Notes
Usage questions
- Q: "Which folders do I see in IronMailer ? I think there is some
folder it´s not showing me."
A: IronMailer lists all SUBSCRIBED Imap folders. These are - normally -
the folders you want to see. There might be some other folders in your
Imap account, but they are not marked as subscribed, so they are not
shown - these are usually system internal folders which are not meant
to be displayed.
If you created a new folder with a client which doesn´t go along
with the Imap rules, it might not have been marked as "subscribed". In
that case, contact your system administrator to correct your Imap
setup.
If you create a new folder within clients such IronMailer or Mozilla,
they are automatically marked as subscribed.
